1. High Isolation in a Miniature Power Module
The GRS series provides a specified input-to-output isolation withstand voltage of 6,000 VDC, tested for 60 seconds at the stated 1 mA leakage condition. Insulation resistance exceeds 500 MΩ when measured at 500 VDC.
This electrical separation helps manage ground-potential differences and reduce ground-loop interference between the supply and output circuits. Its compact construction supports integration into space-constrained instruments requiring an isolated high-voltage source. Compliance with medical safety standards must be assessed separately at the equipment level.
2. Compact Package for Direct PCB Installation
Measuring 19.6 × 9.8 × 12.0 mm and weighing approximately 5 g, the GRS fits into instruments with limited board space. The PVC housing material has a stated UL94 V-0 flammability rating.
The seven-pin arrangement places the input connections on pins 1–3 and the output connections on pins 6–7, with pins 4–5 unused. Board layout must maintain the required clearance and creepage around these connections. The specified soldering limit is 300°C for 10 seconds, with the joint at least 1 mm from the package body. Cooling relies on natural convection within the applicable thermal limits.
3. Input and Output Options for Different System Requirements
Three input families accommodate nominal 5 V, 12 V and 24 V supplies, with operating ranges of 4.5–9 V, 9–18 V and 18–32 V respectively. Available output options include 48, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 400 VDC, with power ratings from 1 to 3 W, depending on the model.
Specified line regulation is ±1%, while load regulation is ±1% over 10–100% load. No-load consumption is stated as 300 mW, and conversion efficiency ranges from 65% to 78%, depending on the input/output combination. Designers can select a version according to the available supply, required output current and thermal budget.
4. Regulated Output with Recoverable Short-Circuit Protection
The series specifies ±2% output-voltage accuracy and switching frequencies between 200 and 400 kHz. Published ripple and noise are ±1% when measured with a 20 MHz bandwidth. A temperature coefficient of 0.02%/°C characterizes output variation with temperature under the stated conditions.
Continuous, self-recovering short-circuit protection allows operation to resume after the fault is removed. External filtering and load selection should follow the module’s requirements, particularly in detector circuits where output noise or voltage variation can affect measurement performance.
5. High-Voltage Generation for Instrumentation
The GRS series offers a modular approach to supplying compatible detector bias circuits, radiation-monitoring instruments, analytical equipment and selected capacitor-charging circuits.
Application suitability depends on the selected output voltage, available current, load capacitance and required stability. For equipment containing multiple high-voltage stages, the module should be evaluated for the specific circuit it supplies. Its integrated construction can reduce the development work associated with a discrete converter while supporting a compact PCB layout.
6. Environmental and Reliability Specifications
The stated operating temperature range is −40°C to +85°C, with storage limits of −55°C to +105°C and humidity up to 95% under non-condensing conditions. These ratings support enclosure and thermal planning; exposure to rain, dust, corrosive substances or condensation requires appropriate additional protection.
The published MTBF is 1,000,000 hours, calculated according to MIL-HDBK-217F at 25°C. This is a statistical reliability estimate under defined assumptions, rather than a guaranteed operating life for an individual module.
Here are seven specific application scenarios of the GRS Series Small-Size Micro-Power 6KV Isolation Wide-Voltage-Input DC High Voltage Output Power Module:
1.Portable medical instruments: The module is used to provide isolated regulated high DC voltage in compact portable medical devices such as handheld blood glucose meters, portable ECG monitors, and wearable health monitoring devices, with its micro-power consumption and small form factor enabling battery-powered operation while 6KV isolation ensures patient safety in direct-contact measurement applications.
2.Industrial sensor excitation: The module is used to supply isolated high voltage excitation signals for industrial sensors including piezoelectric pressure sensors, capacitive displacement sensors, and electrochemical gas detectors, with the wide voltage input accommodating unstable industrial power supply conditions and the compact size allowing integration into space-constrained sensor housings and field-mounted transmitter enclosures.
3.Smart metering systems: The module is used to provide isolated high voltage bias for smart electricity meters, gas detectors, and water quality monitoring instruments, with its ability to operate under wide-range fluctuating input voltages ensuring stable performance in power grid environments with unstable supply, while 6KV isolation protects sensitive metering circuits from high-voltage transients and surge interference.
4.Communication interface isolation: The module is used to supply isolated power for RS485, CAN bus, and Ethernet communication modules in industrial networks, with 6KV galvanic isolation preventing ground loop interference and protecting communication circuits from voltage spikes, while the micro-power design minimizes overall system power consumption in always-on remote monitoring and IoT communication nodes.
5.PCB-mounted high voltage generation: The module is used to generate regulated DC high voltage on printed circuit boards within analytical instruments, spectrometers, and electron beam devices, with its ultra-compact footprint enabling direct PCB mounting in densely packed electronic assemblies where space is at a premium and where stable isolated high voltage must be generated locally near the load components.
